WordPress Design That Looks Sharp and Works Hard
A website should look like your business, but it also needs to make sense to the people using it.
I design WordPress websites around your brand, content and the actions you want visitors to take. That means thinking about visual identity, hierarchy, navigation, layout and usability together rather than treating design as decoration.
The result is a website that feels distinctive to your business while remaining clear, responsive and easy to use.
When a Website Redesign Makes Sense
Website design or redesign can be useful when your current site:
- no longer reflects your business or visual identity
- feels dated, cluttered or inconsistent
- makes it difficult for visitors to understand what you offer
- has grown without a clear visual or content hierarchy
- is difficult to navigate on desktop or mobile
- relies on a generic template that doesn't feel like your business
- needs a stronger foundation before new content or functionality is added
What I Design
Page structure and layouts — clear layouts built around your content and the information visitors need.
Visual direction — typography, colour, spacing, imagery and interface elements that work consistently with your brand.
Navigation and content hierarchy — helping visitors understand where they are, what matters and where to go next.
Responsive design — layouts considered across desktop, tablet and mobile rather than simply scaled down.
Calls to action — clear visual paths towards contacting you, booking, enquiring or taking another relevant action.
Reusable design components — consistent sections and elements that can be used as the website grows.
Usability and accessibility considerations — readable content, sensible interaction patterns and design choices that don't unnecessarily create barriers.
Design Starts With Content and Structure
I don't treat website design as choosing colours and styling pages after the content has already been decided.
Before focusing on visual details, I look at what the website needs to communicate, how the information should be organised and what visitors need to find or do.
Once that structure is clear, typography, imagery, spacing, colour and interface elements can support the content rather than compete with it.
This creates a website where the visual design has a purpose — helping people understand the business and move naturally through the site.
A Website That Feels Like Your Business
WordPress makes it easy to start from an existing theme or template, but that doesn't mean every website needs to look the same.
I use your existing visual identity or work with the direction you already have, to create a website that feels connected to your business rather than simply applying your logo and colours to a generic layout.
The aim is not to make the design unusual for the sake of being different. It is to give your content and brand an appropriate visual language while keeping the website clear and usable.
Design and Development Work Together
A strong design also needs to work within the website that supports it.
Because I work with both WordPress design and development, I consider how layouts will behave responsively, how content will be managed, how reusable components should work and what effect design decisions may have on performance.
This helps avoid a disconnect between what is designed and what can be maintained practically once the website is live.
Website Design in Practice
Georgie Mullen — Website Rebrand & WordPress Design
When GeorgieEats evolved into Georgie Mullen, the existing WordPress website needed to reflect the new identity without losing the established content and functionality behind it.
I translated the new brand direction into the website through updated typography, colours, graphics and interface styling, while adapting the existing WordPress structure rather than rebuilding the site unnecessarily.
The result was a visual transition that supported the new brand while preserving the website and content that had already been built around it.
